Beware of Somethingphisy

I recently ordered a total of 13 fish from Somethingphisy, including 9 Discs. I paid over $100 for overnight shipping.

I was shocked when they arrived. The packaging was simply horrendous. There were 12 container bags, and each one had leaked to the point that there was zero air and only about half the necessary water in them. The newspaper they packed around them was soaked, and the heat pads were insufficient.

It's a miracle any of the fish survived because these cheapskates tied knots in the bags instead of using rubber bands. One of the Disc arrived dead. Another died within a couple of hours, and another overnight. All fish were sick.

I have pictures of they way they arrived that I will send to anyone on request. When I reported the dead fish and the condition of the packing to Keith (the owner), he immediately called me "difficult and dishonest". He e-mailed back a few minutes stating that I could post all I wanted to but that he had cancelled my account. He did - I cannot even access his site any longer.

The final slap in the face is that I ordered and paid for 13 fish, and only received 12 counting the dead ones. When I told him that, he called me a liar. I know he has the best prices on Discs, but when you count the fact of the way he ships them and what you will lose, it may not be worth it.

I find the entire company to be very dishonorable; and, the reason there are no negative reviews on his site is that he will not allow one to be posted, although he requests that you give comments after you purchase. THIS IS TRULY A BUYER BEWARE PURCHASE IF YOU MAKE ONE!

Somethingsphishy - Emails From Customer Service Review

We stand behind ALL of the policies that were on the website when you placed the order. We even offered to pay for prorated shipping even though it clearly states that shipping charges are not covered. The mistake is clearly by UPS. UPS DOES NOT reimburse us for any dead fish. Their policies specifically exclude shipments of LIVE animals. Anything we reimburse you for dead fish will; come solely from Somethingsphishy. Once again, If you were not willing to accept the policies that were on the website when you placed the order, you should not have placed the order. Also, as it states on the website when you placed the order: If you need it delivered on a certain day, please put that in the comments and we will try to accommodate you, but we do not guarantee delivery on any particular day. http://www.somethingsphishy.com/shipping.php As you have become difficult, our next reply will only be after Friday when you will have either received the fish and will then need to follow ALL of the requirements of the Guarantee to get a refund if any are dead or you will not have received them in which case, if they were attempted to be delivered or made available and you did not pick them up, we will not refund anything. It is very disturbing that you are willing to kill fish by not accepting them, especially after you said: This is outrageous that ups will let the fish die at the facility, rather than deliver them or let me pick them up! I am literally shocked that SomethingsPhishy is still in business. I remember hearing about how terrible they are all over the internet years ago on discus forums and fish websites...My old discus importer used to crack jokes about these guys...I guess nothing has changed lol. When will people learn? Go to a real discus seller: Kenny's Discus, DiscusHans, DiscusRUs...even Wattley Discus..no wait, even Macs Discus are better than Something's Phishy. And Macs discus suck! Here's a good tip: Go look at their record with the BBB..that will tell you everything that you need to know! People who are for some reason defending this company clearly don't know what healthy, quality discus look like, and have clearly never dealt with an actual quality discus importer. Lord knows where this guy even gets his fish.

I ordered 6 angels, 1 llevo and two German blue rams. The pleco is great.

One of the angels were dead, all 6 were in a very small bag, the remaining 5 all have fin damage. My biggest complaint is the rams are Bolivan and not German blue. I've had a couple German blues before and know how to identify them. After arrival, I emailed the company and informing of the mix up and they replied '100% German blues'.

At that time I knew they weren't German blues but I wasn't sure what they were. After receiving the email response, I was able to identify them as Bolivian rams by going to the LFS. I replied to the email informing them of the identification, I them receive a response stating I'm wrong and ' YOU ARE NOW BANNED'. Really, who does that, horrible customer service.

I too failed to read any review other than the website. Seems more share my experience than those that have good experiences.

got fish in dead. ups went to side door as i went to front door. he handed me fish but had put in system left under carport. opened fish and all were dead. they blocked me and will not refund me my money. emailed and called them as soon as ups left and right from get go they said they were sorry they will not issue refund. called ups to see why they had put in left under carport and they got intouch with the driver and he said he had already put in system left on carport before he saw me. this is rediculous

I have only ordered one time from this company and it was for dry goods. The 3 products were delivered in a timely fashion and in good condition. After just reading endless complaints about this company two things occurred to me: 1)- there is no reason for their fish to infect your existing fish because the basic rule of fishkeeping is for you to hospitalize your newly purchased fish for up to 6 weeks. 2)- there is no reason to argue with a supplier who delivers inferior merchandise. All you need do when the merchant refuses to live up to his own rules is to file a complaint to your credit card company and refuse to pay the bill. They will investigate and put the charges on hold for up to 30 days and allow the merchant that amount of time to respond to your complaint. In most cases the merchant ( if guilty as charged) will cave in and refund your money. The merchant can not afford to get on the bad side of the credit card companies as they would go out of business very quickly. It's also a good way to turn a shady business into a legitimate business. Good luck, JK

Worst. Company. Ever. The owners should be arrested for the horrible way they run their buisiness. Sick diseased fish that couldn't survive their first hour in the hospital tank, and I've kept discus for almost 18 yrs. Very disappointed I gave them a try. Don't believe their fake reviews on their website...they clearly wrote them!

Somethingsphishy Angelfish Aquarium Fish Review

I ordered 4 angel fish. One DOA, one died a few hrs later. Fish arrived in very small bags, not enough water at all for such a stressful journey. Also why pay for next day air when it takes them extra time to process the order! Kevin, who responded to my emails was extremely rude! Told me to Buy fish elsewhere and closed my account.

Somethingsphishy Discus Aquarium Fish Review

I ordered 12 discus arrived on time 2 were very weak, their whole body is black. I emailed him right away but no reply back. By the time I realize the two that are black are infected it was too late. Five days later one of them die and the most of them are infected! I emailed again and yet again no reply back! Do not trust this company or by any fish from them!

I just ordered my second order 5 this time of discus all diffrent colors. All 12 growing and eating well. Great fish. Super price. These fish need great water quality and excellent food. That is the key to keeping them happy. Not sure why all the negative reviews?

Hi ... Unfortunately I didn't realize all the reviews on their website were 5 star and controlled by them.

I bought the "assorted" discus option. I bought 10 fish but they weren't assorted. I received 4 grey fish which look nothing like any of the fish on their website, 5 orange and 1 yellow. When I contacted Keith about what he sent me, he stated he doesn't keep track of his inventory that he sends.

Really?? I responded "how can you guarantee quality?" The website product pic for assorted discus fish shows 5 different assorted colors. He responded by closing my account and boasting that he is the top seller of discus for 16 years now and doesn't need customers like me. With this poor customer service, and so many people baited out of hundreds of dollars, I'm surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit for this unethical practice of "bait and switch".

Don't be surprised or offended if he does this to you, it's better to not do business with this type of person. I wish I would have done my homework beforehand.
